The Golden & District Historical Society, a volunteer based registered non-profit society, was formed in 1968, and incorporated in 1969 as the Golden & District Historical Society.

After a considerable amount of fundraising the Golden & District Historical Society built the Golden Museum on land that was donated for that purpose. The Museum opened in 1974 and has been added to since it was first built.

The Golden & District Historical Society was formed by community members who wanted to preserve the stories, photographs, and artifacts that shape our valley’s history. Their early efforts grew into a permanent home for these collections, leading to the creation of the Golden Museum.

Over the years, volunteers and supporters have cared for the museum building through exhibit updates, clean‑up days, and ongoing maintenance. Today, the Society continues to protect the community’s heritage by caring for the collection, supporting research, and keeping the museum a welcoming place for visitors of all ages.

The Golden & District Historical Society is the governing body for the Golden Museum.
